HELLO, I'M
David Etta
Linguist, M.A.

David Etta
I am a Linguist interested in applying linguistic theory to solve language problems.

About Me
I am currently a Herz Fellow at the University of Konstanz, Germany. In this project, I explore the phonology of a minoritised, endangered Niger-Congo language, Bokyi, for the purposes of revalidation, documentation and empowerment of its native speakers.
Back in Nigeria, I am on the final part of defending my Ph.D. thesis at the University of Benin. In my dissertation, I analysed the syllable structure of Bokyi. This process availed me of the daunting task of sourcing and analysing data from native speakers of Bokyi for close to two years.
My research interests include:
Finding strategies for inclusion and empowerment of minority languages.
Expanding the theory of Phonology via current insights from linguistic investigations.
Socio-phonetics, Socio-linguistics, multilingualism, and acoustic phonetics.
I am married to a loving Nigerian woman and we have been blessed with two children.
If you are interested in finding out more about my research, please visit the site with my research projects or get in touch. You can find my CV including a list of my publications and grant proposals here
